HAYNER MANSION The Troy/Hayner Cultural Center is housed in what was originally the home of Mary Jane Harter Hayner, wife of William Hayner, founder of the Hayner Distilling Company. Mr. Hayner died in 1912, and the mansion was finished in 1914. Mrs. Hayner resided in the house until her death, in 1942. She had willed the mansion to the Troy Board of Education for use as a library, museum or whatever needs the board felt it could fill. The furniture was auctioned off, and the house served as a library for the next thirty-three years. After outgrowing the facility, the Troy-Miami County Public Library moved to a new building. The house was used for a variety of purposes, eventually becoming the Troy/Hayner Cultural Center. The house was restored and many of the original furniture has been returned. |
