Global Apology
I've seen the places you have bled.
I've seen the mouths that you have fed.
It seems they've eaten you instead.
All I needed was a diamond in the sky.
All I needed was an answer to my cry.
I needed a planet to survive my dead.
I needed a pillow to lay my head.
I needed a plane I could call my bed.
I needed a place to which I could be led.
I needed a place I could bury my dead.
I needed a place to say what I just said.
Oh, dear Earth, you gave me rebirth.
   You answered my calling.
   You kept me from falling.
And look what I've done to you now.
   Think about now.
Sing your song, take a bow.
I'll try to make it up to you somehow.
Oh no, my lady of gold,
They tell me you are growing old.
I touch your face, it's getting cold.
You're getting much too hard to hold.
Come give me your hand. Wipe the tears from your land.
I promise that I won't do it again,
And again and again and again.
